At 10.30am on a pleasant summers day Michael Smith, the Croome Estate Manager, led a group of 28 members on a leisurely 7 mile walk to some of the outer eye-catchers.

As we walked through the park Michael explained the ongoing works which were taking place informing us that there were plans afoot, hopefully within the next year or so, to tidy up the area around the Punchbowl Gates and to re-instate the iron gates.

The group walked through High Green and onward up to the Panorama Tower, to take in the wonderful views from the top ….. and then down to Dunstall Farm, where packed lunches awaited us at the Rimell family’s lovely home.

After lunch came the highlight of the day, when the group had the opportunity to become some of the first people to climb up the inside of the recently restored tower at Dunstall Castle for nearly 40 years. The views from the top of the tower were truly amazing.

Then onwards to the Rotunda, with an opportunity to see how work was progressing inside, before finishing up at the Ice House.

A wonderful day was had by all, and the weather behaved itself until we got back to the R.A.F. Canteen at just after 4.30pm.
